Once again we are delighted with our showing in the DfE official performance tables, which were published on Thursday. Those who take the Yorkshire Post, or visit the BBC or Daily Telegraph web site will have spotted that by a particular measure we have been ranked as the fifth highest attaining school in England at GCSE, and 32nd on the new "Advanced Academic" measure. Taking a call from the Yorkshire Post I was naturally rather pleased to hear that we were considered to have "unequivocally the best results in Yorkshire".

This accolade is a tribute to the ambition and hard work of our fabulous students and outstanding, dedicated staff, and we are exceptionally proud of the progress our students make.
I must, however, as I always do, remind everyone to take great care when drawing conclusions from the ranked tables published in newspapers. The DfE does not produce ranked tables. These are compiled and published by others from the official performance data. the DfE tables show a range of indicators and no single figure on its own can ever tell the whole story. Parents and other interested parties should always take account of a full range of information including hard data and other factors when considering the effectiveness of a school, judging it or choosing it. Happily I can report that HGS performs very well on all the published measures, and would encourage people to take a look.
